The AIUB Law & Mooting Society (ALMS) successfully organized a workshop titled “The Jurisdictional Reach of ICJ & ICC: Procedure for International Moot Court Competitions” on 18 May 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Media Studio, Annex-2, American International University-Bangladesh.

The workshop was arranged to enhance students’ understanding of international moot court competitions, with particular focus on the jurisdictional framework of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC). The session also aimed to provide students with practical insights into the procedure of international mooting, including legal research, memorial preparation, argument development, and oral advocacy.

The programme commenced with a welcome speech delivered by the mentor of AIUB Law & Mooting Society, Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of mooting in developing students’ legal reasoning, advocacy skills, confidence, discipline, and professional preparation. His valuable guidance encouraged the participants to engage more actively in international moot court competitions and academic legal activities.

The programme was organized in collaboration with faculty members, Dr. Robayet Ferdous Syed, Md. Muhtasim Faiaz, Md. Jahedul Islam, and Rafi Ahmed, whose cooperation and support contributed significantly to the successful arrangement of the workshop.

The technical sessions were conducted by Md. Sohanur Rahman, Senior Officer, BRAC, and National Champion in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2024, and Md. Ikra, Lecturer, Department of Law, Bangladesh University of Professionals. The speakers discussed the jurisdictional scope of the ICJ and ICC and explained how these international courts are relevant to moot court problem analysis, legal submissions, and oral pleadings.

Throughout the session, the participants gained practical knowledge on approaching international law issues, identifying jurisdictional questions, structuring legal arguments, and presenting submissions before a moot court bench. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed students to learn directly from experienced speakers and connect theoretical legal knowledge with practical mooting skills.

The workshop concluded with appreciation to the distinguished speakers for conducting an insightful and engaging session. The AIUB Law & Mooting Society expressed sincere gratitude to its mentor, collaborating faculty members, speakers, participants, and organizing team for their valuable contribution in making the programme successful.
