AIUB Hosts Field Visit as part of South Asia Regional Workshop on Inclusive Clean Energy Transitions

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully hosted a field visit as part of the South Asia Regional Workshop on Inclusive Clean Energy Transitions in Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. The visiting delegation included representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the University of Melbourne, esteemed scholars from the participating countries, and members of Grameen Shakti Ltd.

The program began at 11:30 AM at the AIUB Auditorium, with a welcome address by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna (Member, Board of Trustees, AIUB). This was followed by a presentation from Mr. Sohel Ahmed (Managing Director, Grameen Shakti Ltd.), who provided an overview of the Solar Home System and On-Grid Solar System initiatives implemented by Grameen Shakti. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman (Pro Vice-Chancellor, AIUB) then highlighted AIUB’s ongoing contributions to clean energy transitions and the promotion of green energy solutions.

A lunch reception was hosted at the Multipurpose Hall, after which participants explored several of AIUB’s innovative renewable energy installations, including the solar photovoltaic (PV) system, Renewable Energy Technology Lab, off-grid cold storage system, and solar PV-based electric power tiller. The delegation also toured the campus in an electric vehicle powered by solar PV, developed by AIUB.

An open discussion session followed back at the AIUB Auditorium, facilitated by Ms. Reihana Mohideen (Principal Advisor for Inclusive Energy Transitions, Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne). During the session, Mr. Francesco Tornieri (Principal Social Development Specialist – Social Inclusion, ADB), shared his perspectives on inclusive energy transitions and expressed appreciation to AIUB for organizing the field visit.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam (Vice Chancellor, AIUB). The event was further honored by the presence of Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan (Vice Chairman and Founder Member, Board of Trustees, AIUB).
