Recently, Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani (Principal Investigator, PI), Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Deputy Director, Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation and In-Charge, Center for Nanotechnology Research (CNR), has received a research grant under the BAS-USDA Endowment Program for the project entitled “Desalination of water and soil using nanomaterials and nanotechnology”. The duration of this research project is three years (2025-2028), and the grant includes one PhD fellowship for the same tenure. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) awards research funds for Applied Research in Natural Sciences focusing on Food Security in association with Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) under the agreement made between the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the United States of America (USA) in 2001. Salinity of water causes health hazards, interrupts fisheries, poultry, animal husbandries and, most importantly, restricts crop production. The above research project will develop nanomaterials and technologies to remediate the salinity of water and soil to enhance crop production and thus ensure food security. The research work will be conducted at the Center for Nanotechnology Research (CNR), established at AIUB in 2020 and in collaboration with the department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka
