AIUB Environment Club Hosts a Contest on Zero-Waste Product Design

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the AIUB Environment Club, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), organized its first-ever Zero-Waste Product Design Contest under the theme “Rethink Waste 2025” at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The event saw enthusiastic participation from 32 teams comprising 1–3 members, who showcased their innovative and sustainable ideas aimed at protecting the environment.

The program commenced with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Mentor of the AIUB Environment Club. The event was further honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Manzur H. Khan (Professor, Department of Computer Science & Proctor, Director of OSA), Dr. Md. Abdullah Al-Jubair (Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Director, FST), and Mr. Kazi Lutiful Haque (Assistant Director, Administration) who praised the students’ creativity and commitment to a waste-free future.

A distinguished panel of six faculty members served as judges:

  1. Prof. Dr. Asif Kamal (Department of English)
  2. Dr. Fatema Tuz Zohra (Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics)
  3. Dr. Md. Saiful Islam (Associate Professor, Department of Physics)
  4. Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam (Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry)
  5. Dr. Farzana Khalil (Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry)
  6. Mr. Shahriar Atik Fahim (Lecturer, Department of Chemistry)

Team Greenovators emerged as the Champion, followed by Team Trashformers as the 1st Runner-Up, while Team 3 Omigos and Team Wasteless Wonder jointly secured the position of 2nd Runner-Up.

The event was made possible by the dedication of the members of the AIUB Environment Club and the faculty of the Chemistry Department, whose efforts ensured the contest’s success and impact. This initiative reflects AIUB's growing commitment to sustainability and student-driven environmental innovation.
