A team from the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), Department of CSE, achieved remarkable success at IEEE WIE Day, 2026 by securing the 1st Runner-Up position in the prestigious National Poster Presentation Competition. The team, Team Dark Circles, was led by Arnob Aich Anurag, with Md. Sadman Hossain and Mohona Musarrat worked as team members.  They presented their work with the title “A Few-Shot Learning Network for Gait Recognition under Appearance Variations” where Gait recognition identifies a person by their walking style using only a small number of labeled examples. In real-world scenarios, appearance changes such as carrying a bag or wearing a coat can distort the silhouette and significantly reduce recognition accuracy. To address this challenge, Team Dark Circles proposed a Dynamic Part-Aware Prototype Network (DPAPN) that dynamically emphasizes the most discriminative body regions for each query under a few-shot learning setting. IEEE WIE Day 2026, presented by The Celeste, was organized by the Southeast University IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group in association with the IEEE Southeast University Student Branch. The National Poster Presentation Competition attracted 14 teams from various universities, each presenting innovative solutions to contemporary challenges through research-based posters. Competing against strong contenders, the AIUB team secured 1st Runner-Up award.
