On a vibrant Sunday, July 15, 2024, the AIUB campus came alive with excitement as the AIUB Champions League (ACL) Football Championship kicked off, setting the stage for a thrilling seven-day battle for football supremacy. With 48 departmental teams competing, every match was filled with intense action and unwavering passion. Football enthusiasts could follow the excitement live through AIUB’s official YouTube channel, which broadcasted all matches of the tournament.
The grand finale, held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, was an electrifying showdown. Atletico de Madrid (BBA) triumphed with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace FC (MBA), securing the prestigious championship title. SSC Napoli (EEE) clinched third place, while Leeds United (CS) earned the Fair Play award for their exceptional sportsmanship. In addition, a special women’s match saw Real Madrid CF edge out FC Barcelona in a fierce competition, featuring some of Bangladesh’s top national stars, including Sanjida Akhter, Krishna Rani Sarker, Mishrat Jahan Moushumi, Anuching Mogini, and Rupa Akter, to the delight of the lively crowd.
As the sun set, the campus transformed into a celebratory stage during the grand prize-giving ceremony. AIUB’s esteemed guests, including Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor of AIUB; Professor Dr. Manzur H. Khan, Proctor of AIUB; Professor Dr. Mohammad Faridul Alam, Director of Graduate Program, FBA; Dr. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director, Faculty of Engineering; and Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Director of Undergraduate Program, FBA, honored the champions by presenting medals and trophies. The event was hosted by Mr. Md. Joynal Abedin, Coordinator of the Office of Sports, AIUB.
The organizing team, led by the Office of Sports with support from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), extended heartfelt thanks to all the participants for their tremendous energy and enthusiasm throughout the tournament.
