AIUB Celebrates the Inauguration of Astronomy and Space Science Club (AASSC)

The AIUB Astronomy and Space Science Club (AASSC) was formally inaugurated on 24 December 2025 at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) through a joint initiative of the Faculties from Science and Engineering departments, with enthusiastic participation of students. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, as the Chief Guest, along with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman and Proctor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Manzur H. Khan. The session commenced with an introduction by mentors of AASSC, Dr. Md. Sarowar Hossain, Assistant Professor, Department of Natural Sciences (Physics) and Rethwan Faiz, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AIUB, highlighting the mission, vision and ongoing activities of the club. Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam sheared his valuable speech and expressed keen interest in Astronomy, appreciating the initiatives in advancement of Space research at AIUB. Moreover, at the opening of the program, Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, attended the event and shared insightful and valuable information with the students and faculties. Furthermore, Dr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Deputy Director of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation, shared his expertise and academic interest in astronomy. The event featured a special lecture by physicist and atmospheric scientist Mostofa Kamal Palash from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, whose inspiring talk emphasized the importance of scientific thinking, continuous learning, and the role of astronomy and atmospheric science in understanding both the Earth and the universe. In addition, he illustrated the beauty and science of the aurora through a documentary presentation, describing the phenomenon as the sky’s dance. Furthermore, the presence of Dr. SNM. Azizul Haque, Atmospheric and Space Scientist, Data Analyst, Sysco Canada Inc., further enriched the program. The program also included an engaging seminar, a hands-on telescope-based sky observation session, and a lively cultural segment arranged by AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC).

The AIUB Astronomy and Space Science Club (AASSC) was officially launched on 30 October 2025, marking a milestone in AIUB’s academic and research initiatives. With a strong research-oriented vision, the club promotes astronomy education, space science research, and practical scientific learning across diverse disciplines. Through telescope-based observations, data analysis, seminars, workshops, and collaborative projects, AASSC transforms student curiosity into research skills. Guided by its tagline, “Where Curiosity Meets Cosmos,” the club fosters student-led research, leadership, and an interdisciplinary scientific culture while representing AIUB in national and international astronomy initiatives.
