The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) celebrated World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2026 by organizing a seminar and a rally on April 26, 2026, in line with the global theme “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.” The seminar highlighted the importance of intellectual property in the sports industry, focusing on legal, innovative, and commercial aspects.

Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman (Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB), inaugurated the session and highlighted the significance of intellectual property, emphasizing its vital role in fostering innovation and protecting creative works.

The session featured Mr. Mirza Golam Sarwar (Deputy Director (Patent), Department of Patent, Industrial Design & Trademarks, Ministry of Industries, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh), as the distinguished speaker. During his talk, he discussed various types of intellectual property, including patents and trademarks, as well as key concepts such as the criteria of patentability. His session was followed by an interactive Q&A segment.  

Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam delivered the closing remarks, where he underscored the growing importance of intellectual property in today’s knowledge-driven world.

The event was held at the AIUB Auditorium with active participation from faculty members and students. A rally was also organized after the seminar to mark the occasion and raise awareness of intellectual property rights. The program reflected AIUB’s commitment to promoting innovation and intellectual property awareness within the academic community.
