AIUB at the Inaugural BEAR Summit

The inaugural BioTech, Electronics, AI, and Robotics (BEAR) summit was held at the National Science and Technology Complex on July 16, 2025. The BEAR summit and the associated Semiconductor Symposium were unique as academicians, local industry stalwarts, and leaders of the top global tech companies came together to discuss the status and prospects of the BEAR and semiconductor fields in Bangladesh. A panel discussion titled Robotics for Resilience, Labor, and Industry Revolution 4.0 and 5.0 was held in the afternoon session. Dr. Ebad Zahir, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB, participated in the discussion as one of the panelists. The panel also included Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BUET, and Dr. Mohammad Ariful Haque, Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BUET. The panel was moderated by Dr. Shahnewaz Siddique, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University.

The panelists introduce their individual institutions’ capabilities and personal innovation journey in the field of robotics. Dr. Ebad Zahir represented AIUB at the panel and discussed his A2i funded project (medical mobile delivery robot) that was piloted at PG hospital in 2018. All panelists also shared their opinions on robotics readiness in Bangladesh in terms of R&D, infrastructure, policy, and the talent pipeline.  The panelists also proposed immediate and mid-term actions for Bangladesh to enter the global robotics value chains.

Scientific Poster Paper from AIUB

A poster paper authored by Dr. Md. Kabiruzzaman, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB, and his collaborators was presented at the BEAR summit. The paper is titled 2D Material-Enhanced Phase Change Memory: Thermal Confinement by Monolayer MoS2 for Reduced RESET Current in Pillar Cells. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Sadid Muneer (UIU), Dr. Nafisa Noor (NSU), and Dr. Mainul Hossain (DU).
