AIUB at EURIE 2022

Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, Vice Chancellor of AIUB participated at the EURIE 2022, the largest International Education Conference and Exhibition in Eurasia. The conference was held in hybrid mode in Istanbul, Turkey and in Zoom platform from March 2 – 4, 2022. Dr. Carmen’s presentation on ‘Internationalization Post-Covid’ was co-presented by Mr. Manzur H Khan, Director, Office of Student Affairs in the conference.

EURIE 2022 hosted 1180 Attendees from 57 countries with 19 collaborative partners and 312 participating institutions. There were 142 speakers, 48 panels, plenaries and roundtable sessions in the conference. 100 young entrepreneurs also took part pitch competition.

Dr. Carmen’s presentation was on the impact of COVID-19 on higher education and internationalization, reflections and perspectives for the future. The panel also discussed the results of the “second IAU Global Survey on the impact of COVID-19 on higher education” focusing especially on internationalization. The IAU Global Survey is an institutional online survey conducted in February – June 2021, which gathered replies from 496 Higher Education Institutions in 112 countries and territories around the world. The panel provided an overview of the impact of COVID-19 on internationalization at global level along with two specific case studies, one from Asia and one from Europe. From Bangladesh, the case study of the American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB), and from Ireland, the case study of the University College Dublin (UCD), were highlighted in discussion. Prof. Dr. Andrew Deeks, President, UCD presented the impact on COVID-19 on internationalization in his institution. Prof. Pam Fredman, President, International Association of Universities (IAU) was the moderator of the panel.

Overall, the panel provided for a reflection on the impact of COVID-19 on internationalization and, at the same time, shared perspectives for the future of internationalization by highlighting both challenges and opportunities created by the pandemic.
