AIUB and Russian House in Dhaka Explore Opportunities to Strengthen Academic and Cultural Cooperation

Ms. Alexandra A. Khlevnoy, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, paid a formal visit to American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) on 9 August 2026 to explore opportunities for strengthening academic, educational, cultural, and youth cooperation. Ms. Khlevnoy was accompanied by Mr. Proshanta Kumar Barman and Mr. Delwar Hossain from the Russian House in Dhaka. During the visit, a formal meeting was held with the senior leadership and representatives of AIUB. The discussions focused on a range of potential areas of collaboration, including cultural and educational programmes, scholarship and higher education opportunities in Russia, Russian language learning, youth initiatives, joint seminars and events, and opportunities for future institutional cooperation, including the possibility of establishing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities in Russia. Ms. Khlevnoy briefed the AIUB representatives on the activities and initiatives of the Russian House in Dhaka, highlighting its role in promoting Russian education, science, culture, language learning, and international youth cooperation in Bangladesh. She also discussed potential opportunities for AIUB students and faculty members to participate in educational, cultural, and youth-focused programmes supported by Russian institutions. The AIUB representatives expressed their interest in expanding the University’s international academic and cultural engagement and exploring mutually beneficial initiatives with the Russian House in Dhaka and relevant institutions in the Russian Federation. Both sides emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for students and faculty members through academic exchanges, scholarships, research collaboration, cultural programmes, and joint educational activities. The meeting was attended by the following representatives from AIUB: Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor; Ms. Shania Mahia Abedin, Member, Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Group Captain (Retd.) Dr. Mohammad Zahidul Islam Khan, Registrar; Dr. S. A. M. Manzur H. Khan; Abu Mia Akanda Tuhin; Md. Manirul Islam; and Saadi Islam. The visit concluded with both sides expressing their interest in maintaining dialogue and pursuing concrete initiatives to further strengthen educational, cultural, and youth cooperation among AIUB, the Russian House in Dhaka, and partner institutions in Russia.
