On 24th November, 2016 AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) organized an industrial tour to United Power Generation and Distribution Company Ltd. (UPGD) located at Savar, Dhaka. It is a Gas based Power Plant and an independent power producer, which engages in the generation and distribution of electricity in Bangladesh. 40 students and 4 faculty members from Department of EEE participated in this tour.  The team departed from the FE Building at 9:45 a.m. and reached the power plant at around 11:30 a.m. 

After a brief introduction the participants were taken to the conference room and there engineers of UPGD briefly explained the basics of the Engines and Alternators. There were three main points of interest, the Engine Hall, Switch Gear and Substation. 3 groups were formed with 13 participants in each group and they were taken to show the main three points. Mr. Abdullah Al-Amin (Assistant Engineer, Electrical Maintenance, UPGD) described the different portions of the Rolls Royce Control Room and the Substation. He explained how to synchronize engine, how to operate gas boiler, uses of ONAN & ONAF and the advantage of Engine over Turbine. After the instructor was done explaining the operations of both the engine and alternator to the students, the visitors were again taken to the conference room where some refreshments were served.

At the very end, the authorities of UPGD had a conversation with the students and praised AIUB for taking such an initiative and stimulated to organize more events like this and make the students more informed and familiar with the pragmatic world.  AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) extends its fervent gratitude to the authority of the UPGD for their support and conviviality. Last but not the least, the authorities and instructors of the tour were given gift hampers as a token of appreciation by the faculty members: Mr. Nahian Al Subri Ivan (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB), Mr. Saiful Islam Khan (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB), Mr. Mehdi Hassan (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Sayed Muhammad Baker (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, & Motivator of ACES). The tour came to an end with a group photo with all the authorities and the participants.
