ACES organized an Industrial Tour to “Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited”

On 31st of March 2016, AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) organized an industrial tour to Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, Narayanganj (DEW Ltd). It is the oldest dockyard/shipyard in the Indian subcontinent and possesses the glorious history of ship building and repair work. It was established in 1926 on the eastern bank of river Shitalakkha, Narayanganj. It is about 32 km away from the capital city of Dhaka. The tour was aimed to get the students familiar with the engineering work of the shipyard industries.

On arrival, the members of the management team gave warm welcome to the visiting faculties and students of AIUB.  The students were given half an hour briefing by Engr. S.M. Rashidul Hasan(Executive Engineer, Planning & Design Department, DEW LTD.). The briefing session provided some valuable information about the Dockyard & Engineering Works Ltd such as their layout, organization, capabilities, planning and services. He also showed the production, sales and net profit. After completion of the session students were divided into two groups and each group was taken to visit different sections of the shipyard by Engr. Md Mosharaf Hossain (Assistant Engineer, DEW LTD.) and Engr. Abu Kaysar(Assistant Engineer, DEW LTD.). Workers and supervisors were present to guide and brief the working process to the students. Students also got the chance to see different parts of the ship, machines for ship making. At the end of the session, in grateful recognition of their invaluable service, the faculty members presented some souvenir on behalf of AIUB and Captain S I M Zahanyar, (E), psc, BN (GM, DEW LTD.) handed over a crest to the faculty members of AIUB as a token of gratitude.

The tour was blessed with the presence of Mr. Debajit Saha(Lecturer, Department of EEE, AIUB), Mr. Sayed Muhammad Baker(Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB & Motivator of ACES), Ms. Shahreen Hassan(Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB & Motivator of ACES) and Mr. Kawshik Shikder (Teaching Assistant, Department of EEE, AIUB). ACES extend its insightful appreciation to the authority of Dockyard & Engineering Works Ltd for their support and hospitality.
