On 8th April, 2017 AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) organized an industrial tour to Doreen Power Generations and Systems Ltd. DPGSL was incorporated in Bangladesh on 20th August 2007 as a private limited company. PGSL has set up three power plants for generating and supplying 66MW electricity to Bangladesh Power Developments Board (BPDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) under three power purchase agreements signed by the company with BPDB and REB. To provide uninterrupted electricity to the vast majority of the country for their personal, social and economic development, DPGSL has taken initiative to establish more power plants in different places of the country to expand its power generation capacity by 200 MW. The team visited the Manikganj Power plant of DPGSL, the name of this power plant is Dhaka Northern Power Generation Limited (DNPGL). It has a power generation capacity of 55 MW. A group of 28 students with 2 faculty members of AIUB visited the power plant. The team was led by Mr. Mohammad Anis Uz Zaman (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Md. Arif Abdulla Samy (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB). The team departed from the FE Building-2 at 8:20 a.m. and the tour bus reached the industry around 10:30 a.m.
After a brief introduction by the Engineers, the number of people was divided into 2 groups of 14 each. The participants were given ear plugs to go inside the power plant. Mr. Forhad Hossain (Electrical Maintenance, DNPGL) briefly explained the basics of the Engines and Transformers. He also explained how to synchronize engine, how to operate gas boiler and advantages of engine over turbine. Mr. Esmail Hossain (Mechanical Maintenance, DNPGL) explained the operations of both the engine and alternator to the students. After the instructors were done explaining, the visitors were again taken to the conference room where some refreshments were served to them.
At the very end, the Authorities of DNPGL had a conversation with the students and praised AIUB for taking such an initiative for engineering students to make them observe an important sector of Power and stimulated to organize more events like this and make the students more informed and familiar with the pragmatic world. AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) extend its fervent gratitude to the authority of the DNPGL for their support and conviviality. Last but not the least, the Authorities and Instructors of the tour were given gift hampers as a token of appreciation and hospitality by the faculty members of AIUB. The tour came to an end with a group photo with all the authorities and the participants. It was an important and successful tour for engineering students who were interested in power sector.
