A seminar on “Matrix (Perception, Knowledge and Inference)” was held at the seminar room (Annex 2, Room 2207, American International University-Bangladesh) by AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES). The goal of this seminar was to teach students of the Architecture Department about various organisation methods namely matrix charts and also show them ways to widen their perspective.
Prof. Dr A.B.M. Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) inaugurated the seminar by welcoming the participants and delivering a few words about the importance of computers in education and various job prospects for students of Architecture. Afterwards, the speaker Mr Maherul Kader Prince (Lecturer, Department of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) was asked to come forward to share his insight on the topic. He started by sharing his past experiences about how his perception changed from the days of being a student to the present day. Then, he mentioned about some of the key steps on how students can broaden their perspective and plan ahead for their projects/designs. A few examples given by him were: Conceiving an idea, Brainstorming, Creation of Matrix charts and Visualization. He later elaborated on visualization and listed some 3D and visual effects software such as Adobe After Effects, 3D Studio Max, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper that can help architects shape their ideas. Moreover, he also emphasised on some complicated calculations required for designing complex architectures that can be easily done using the software mentioned previously and also provided links and sources on where to find them. Later on, he discussed about the importance of using technology in the study of architecture in order to preserve the tradition so as to not disrupt the beauty of historic areas. In addition, Mr Maherul Kader Prince showcased some of his projects, among which few of them attained first position in both National and International competitions. Finally, he proceeded to question and answers session with the participants of the seminar and provided students with beneficial ideas.
Prof. Dr ABM Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB), was requested to come forward and present the token of appreciation to the honourable guest speaker. Mr Safayet Ahmed (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Motivator of ACES) and Mr Abul Hasnat (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering) were also present. The seminar came to an end with a group photograph.
