A Talk Show on the Topic: The Right Choice of Major, Leading Towards a Successful Career

The Faculty of Business Administration, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a Career Orientation Talk Show for the benefit of its MBA students on18th November, 2015. The resource persons for the program were Mr. Aftab Mahmud Khurshed, Group Chief Marketing Officer & Business Development Head, Super Star Group (SSG) Ltd and Mr.Reaz Ameen Choudhury, Head Supply Chain Management, Novartis (Bangladesh) Ltd. The main objective of the Talk Show was highlighting the prospect and potential of the major courses like Marketing, HRM, Finance, Accounting, MIS, and Operations Management which are offered in the MBA and EMBA Program. The audience was mainly the students who are yet to declare their major. The resource persons briefed the students about the different aspects which they need to consider before choosing their major and planning their career. Both highlighted the importance of ethical standards and competence as important factors, which students must uphold when in employment. Aware of these factors like parents, friends, media and others that influence their choice of career, they were advised to have a cognitive knowhow and interest on the programs and specific major so that they can stand on the basic domains of learning. Their briefing was followed by a lively question and answer session, where the students asked a wide range of questions related to their interests and plan what to major in their MBA program. The Talk Show was moderated by Dr.Nisar Ahmed, Director, MBA Program. The Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva warmly welcomed the resource persons, students and faculty to the program with his brief insights on the importance of career guidance in the educational development process of the students. Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Director MBA/EMBA program assisted the Dean in presenting Certificates of Appreciation and AIUB souvenir items to the resource persons.
