The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) commenced a study tour on 26th of July, 2014 to 33 MW Maona Power Plant of Summit Uttaranchol Power Company Ltd. This project was set up to provide electricity for Mymensingh and Gazipur Palli Bidyut Samity under 15-years Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Rural Electrification Board (REB). This time the tour was planned for the students of Power Stations course and arranged by the course teacher Mr. Taskin Jamal, Assistant Professor of EEE Dept. with a view to getting the students familiar with the power station operation that they had studied in their academic course. With the course teacher, other six lecturers of EEE Dept., Ms. Tahia Fahrin Karim, Mr. Nasimul Islam Maruf, Mr. Miftah Al Karim, Mr. Md. Hasib Noor, Mr. Rashedul Hoque and Mr. Fahim Ahmed accompanied 47 enthusiastic students in the tour.
On arrival, the students were given a demonstration lectures to get introduced with the power plant and then were divided into three groups in order to make the tour time-convenient. The total power plant was divided into 5 zones. Three Assistant Deputy Managers, Mr. Md. Rajin Alam, Mr. Yasir Ibne Amin and Mr. Md. Rafiul Islam assisted the three groups to these 5 zones. The first zone was the work station of the power house which incorporates major control units such as, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), WOIS (Wartsila Operator Interface System), Energy Metering Panel, Auto-Synchronizer, CFC Panel and many more. The next zone is the Engine room, where total four numbers of Wartsila Engines (20V34SG) were placed symmetrically in the engine room. The capacity of each engine is 9000kW. Zone 3 is the Substation/ Switchyard. The 4th zone was the RMS (Regulating & Metering Station ) and Radiator. The last zone was the Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, Diesel Generator and Battery Room.
