A Study Tour to Beximco Industrial Park with the Students of HR Department

On 19th October 2019, the Department of Management and HR, FBA, AIUB organized a study tour to “Beximco Industrial Park” which is the largest employer in the private sector in Bangladesh and employs over 70,000 people worldwide. Since the early days, the Group has evolved from being primarily a commodities trading company to a leading, diversified group with a presence in industry sectors that account for nearly 75% of Bangladesh's GDP. The tour was arranged by the course teacher Mrs. Samia Shabnaz, Senior Assistant Professor of Management Dept. for the students of Human Resource Planning and Forecasting and Human Resource Information System course. Afdalin Bin Haque, Assistant Professor, Department of Management and HR also accompanied the student during the tour.   The objective of the visit was to get the students familiar with the HR activities of the industry which will help them to relate the concepts they had been studied in their academic courses.

On arrival, the members of the management team received and gave warm welcome to the visiting faculty members and students of AIUB. The students were given a 1 hour briefing by M. Motiur Rahman, Senior Manager, Personnel and Admin. The briefing session provided some valuable information about the organization such as their working system, vision, HRM practices, and social work. They also shared their experience about the growth of Beximco Industrial Park in Bangladesh as well as outside of the country.

After completion of the session, the students were taken to visit Bextex Ltd. which is the most modern composite mill in the region. Bextex Ltd. has an installed capacity of 288 high-speed air-jet looms in its weaving section and a high-tech dyeing and finishing section with a capacity of 100,000 yards of finished fabric per day. It has a state of the art composite knit fabric production mill, which serves the growing needs of high-quality knit garments exporters in Bangladesh. The project was set up as a state of the art knit fabric knitting, dyeing and finishing facility. Workers and supervisors were present to guide and brief about the production process to the students. Students also got a real life experience on the concern for health and safety affair. In the garments industry, labor unrest, wages and salary, compliance related problems are now the burning issues, so students observed the measures taken by the organization to deal with the current challenges of this sector. At the end of the session as a grateful recognition of their invaluable service, the faculty member handed over some souvenir on behalf of Faculty of Business Administration, AIUB.

Villanueva, Vice President Academics and Dean Faculty of Business Administration and Ms. Farheen Hasan, Director, BBA Program, FBA, and Major (retd) Faiz-Ul-Bari Rajon, Deputy Director, Administration provided their support for organizing the tour.
