On 24^th of March 2016, the Department of Management and HR, FBA, AIUB organized a study tour to “Babylon Group” which is one of the largest leading garments factories of Bangladesh. The tour was organized for the students of Human Resource Planning and Forecasting and Strategic Human Resource Management courses with Mrs. Samia Shabnaz, Assistant Professor of Management Dept. The study tour was aimed to get the students familiar with the HR activities of the industry which will help them to relate the concepts they had been studied in their academic courses.

On arrival, Mr. Abdus Salam Director, Babylon Group of Companies Ltd along with other members of the management team received and gave warm welcome to the visiting faculties and students of AIUB. The students were given a 1 hour briefing by Mr. Atiqul Islam Apu, Assistant Manager, Training and Development. The briefing session provided some valuable information about the Babylon Group such as their working system, vision, HRM practices, and social work. They also shared their experience about the growth of Babylon in Bangladesh as well as outside of the country.

After completion of the session students were divided into two groups and each group was taken to visit different section such as “Cloth Cutting Section”, “Stitching Section”, “Quality Check Section “, “Finishing Section” etc. Workers and supervisors were present to guide and brief about the production process to the students. Students also got the opportunity to interview women garments worker about the HR issues of the organization. They also got a real life experience on the concern for health and safety measures. In the garments industry labor unrest, wages and salary, compliance related problems are now burning issues, so students observed the measures taken by the organization to deal with the current challenges of this sector. At the end of the session, in grateful recognition of their invaluable service, the faculty members presented  some souvenir on behalf of AIUB.

Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean Faculty of Business Administration, Mr. Manzur H. Khan, Director, OSA and Mr. Abdul Kader Nazmul, Director, FBA, provided their continuous support for the arrangement of the tour.
