Topological Phase Transitions and Edge-State Transport in Two-Dimensional Quantum Materials

Abstract
"Introduction: Topological insulators the topological insulators have raised a lot of interest in condensed matter physics due to their peculiar electronic properties that include two-dimensional (2D) topological insulators. They are not like ordinary materials, since they act like insulators on the bulk, but they are conductive of electricity on their edges. A more extensive insight into the progress of this research topic can be made by studying the way the performance of such materials has developed over the last few years. Methodology: In this paper, a small data set of 30 cases between 1995 and 2024 was put together based on data that have been reported in past research papers on topological insulators and 2D materials in general. Three were regarded, including edge-state conductance, topological band gap and quantum coherence. Due to the fact that various studies utilize varying measurement units, all the values were transformed into a normalized score ending up in 0 to 100. Thereafter, simple descriptive statistics and the trend analysis were performed to identify the changes over the study period. Results: The analysis indicates that all the three indicators have gradually increased as time goes by. The conductance of the edges rose up to 10.0 in 1995 to 90.0 in 2024. On the same note, the topological bandgap increased by 18.0 to 84.0 and the quantum coherence increased by 26.0 to 78.0. These tendencies indicate growing positive change in reported transport efficiency, material stability and coherence properties in later studies. Conclusion: Altogether, the findings show that the study of 2D topological materials continues to develop. The trends however, primarily represent a set of reported developments in the literature compared to controlled experimental comparisons, as the data were gathered based on various materials and various experimental setups. "
