Abstract

Climate change is a pressing issue of the twenty-first century, exacerbated by the continuous burning of fossil fuels. In Bangladesh, the transportation sector contributes 20% of annual net carbon emissions, predominantly powered by fossil-based fuels. Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HFCVs) offer a promising solution, emitting zero tailpipe emissions and exhibiting high efficiency, especially for long-distance travel. This research employs a detailed SIMULINK model to analyze HFCV behavior and efficiency under Bangladesh driving conditions. It also assesses the net CO𝟐 emissions of HFCVs throughout their lifecycle, from hydrogen production to vehicle operation. Scenario analysis is conducted to compare environmental impacts with conventional internal combustion engines, revealing HFCVs' 20% higher efficiency and peak power utilization of about 45% at each charging-discharging cycle. This study contributes valuable insights into sustainable transportation solutions in Bangladesh, aiding the optimization of HFCVs for regional needs. Utilizing Simulink ensures accuracy in capturing the dynamic interlinkage within HFCV systems, advancing clean energy technologies in the Bangladeshi automotive sector.
