Abstract
Background: In recent years, cybercrime is increasing reportedly in Bangladesh. Women and children are extremely affected by this rise, which is associated with increased internet use and insufficient safety precautions. More awareness and legal frameworks increase cybercrime reporting and management, this study is reported cybercrime instances, victim demographics, and the efficacy of law enforcement interventions and awareness programs. Methods: A quantitative analysis was conducted using data from 2018 to 2022 that was acquired from the Bangladesh Police Cyber Crime Investigation Division and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. The research included statistical analysis of reported cases, victim demographics, helpline usage, successful law enforcement operations, and the outcomes of awareness campaigns and legislative measures. Results: The results show that the number of cybercrime incidents recorded increased steadily from 1,250 in 2018 to 3,200 in 2022. The proportion of female victims has steadily increased, rising from 60% to 70%, while the percentage of young victims has increased from 15% to 25%. Helpline calls have risen, due to increased public awareness and the expansion of support systems. With the success rate improving from 30% to 50%, law enforcement measures are becoming more effective. The growth of awareness programs and innovative projects highlights a proactive approach to preventing cybercrime. Conclusion: The critical need for ongoing efforts to strengthen laws, increase awareness, and enhance victim support networks in Bangladesh is highlighted in this paper. The success of awareness efforts and the volume of cases recorded indicate that victims can be empowered by knowledge and services. Future studies should focus on tracking trends and evaluating how well defenses against cyberthreats shield vulnerable populations.
