The 4th International Conference on Computing Advancement (ICCA 2026), held in association with ACM, took place on October 15–16, 2026, at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Organized by the university’s Department of Computer Science, the conference served as a platform for researchers, academics, scientists and technology professionals from Bangladesh and other countries to share their knowledge and discuss recent developments in computing. Over the two days, participants presented their research and exchanged ideas on emerging technologies and innovations across various fields of computing.
ICCA 2026 received over 900 research paper submissions from 17 countries. Following a rigorous review process, 214 papers were accepted for presentation, representing research contributions from Bangladesh and countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and Canada. The conference explored a broad range of topics in computing and technology, with particular focus on areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, Data Science and Blockchain Technology.
The conference opened with a discussion by Professor Donald A. Norman, Founding Director Emeritus of the UCSD Design Lab and Co-founder and Principal Emeritus of the Nielsen Norman Group. His presentation, “Design for a Better World: Humanity-Centred Design in the Age of AI,” highlighted the importance of human-centred design and technology that improves human well-being. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, Founder Member and Vice Chairman of the AIUB Board of Trustees as Chief Guest, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, former Vice Chancellor of AIUB; Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of AIUB; Professor Dr. Dip Nandi, Dean of FST and Program Chair; Professor Dr. Khandaker Tabin Hasan, Associate Dean of FST and General Chair; and Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Dhaka.
The keynote sessions featured speakers from Bangladesh and abroad. Professor Dr. M. Sohel Rahman of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) presented “What Metaheuristics Can Do for You?”, exploring optimization techniques and their applications in science and engineering. Professor James Harland of RMIT University, Australia, discussed mixed reality, robotics and virtual laboratories in “Making Magic with Advanced Technology.” Professor Mohamed Abdel-Maguid of Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom, delivered “Who Decides? Human Judgement in the Age of Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI),” examining human judgement, accountability and decision making in increasingly autonomous AI systems.
On the second day, Professor Dr. Edmund Ng Giap Weng of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia, presented “From Daily News to Lifelong Learning: Reimagining the Newspaper as an AI-Powered Learning Centre for the Future,” focusing on AI-supported learning and critical thinking. Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Malaysia, discussed AI-powered traffic analysis and connected vehicle technologies in “Seeing the Road Ahead: AI-Powered Traffic Intelligence and the Rise of Connected Vehicle Ecosystems.” Dr. Dababrata Chowdhury of Ravensbourne University London, United Kingdom, presented “Darkside of the Technology and Future Sustainability,” examining the ethical, social, economic and environmental challenges of technological advancement.
Parallel paper presentations were an important part of the conference, providing researchers with opportunities to present their findings, receive feedback and exchange ideas across diverse computing disciplines. Another major highlight was the industry panel discussion, “Beyond Generative AI: From Intelligent Tools to Industry Transformation,” moderated by Professor Dr. Manzur H. Khan, Proctor of AIUB. The panel featured Forkan Bin Quasem, Managing Director of Spectrum Engineering Consortium (Pvt.) Ltd., M. Manjur Mahmud, President of DataSoft Systems Bangladesh Limited and Raisul Kabir, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brain Station 23 Ltd. The panel discussion explored how AI is moving beyond generative tools to transform industries, business practices and professional roles. Together, the industry perspectives made the panel an engaging and valuable discussion on the practical adoption of AI and the changing demands of the technology sector.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan, Founder Member and Chairman of the AIUB Board of Trustees as Chief Guest, Ms. Nadia Anwar, Founder Member of the Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor of AIUB; Professor Dr. Manzur H. Khan, Proctor of AIUB and other university officials.
ICCA 2026 was supported by Dhaka Bank as Platinum Sponsor, Subaru Bangladesh Ltd. As Gold Sponsor, the ICT Division of the Government of Bangladesh as Innovation Partner, and The Business Standard and Somoy TV as Media Partners. Overall, the conference provided a valuable platform for research exchange, academic collaboration and discussion of emerging technologies and their impact on society.
