Keeping up its long standing tradition, the Department of English, AIUB organized a very successful two-daylong English in Action event titled “English Day, Spring 2018-19” on April 4, 2019 and April 7, 2019 in its permanent campus surrounded by beautiful greenery and architecture. The first day of the program on April 4 was exclusively arranged to provide students of different departments belonging to all the four faculties (FASS, FBA, FE and FSIT) of AIUB with opportunities to showcase their talent by taking part in a competition on the categories of Impromptu Speech, Turn the Coat, Public Speaking and Creative Writing along with a Quiz Competition at the state of the art Media Studio of the university. Two screening rounds were held on March 27 and March 28, 2019 to select the participants of the final round. A number of teachers’ panels from the Department of English were engaged with the total arrangement of the program providing their full support in both the preliminary and final round to make the competition round a grand success. On the second day of the program, on April 7, a vibrant cultural program was held along with an Award Giving Ceremony for the winners of the competitions of the first day. All the participants and winners were provided with certificate of participation and the Champion and Runner up team members were provided with crests. Amid a lot of din and bustle, the second day of the program began in presence of Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Vice-president, Academic, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of FASS, M. Hamidul Haque, Head of the Department of English, participating students, and a large number of audiences. Other eminent professors and faculty members of English, Economics, MMC and Social Science departments also graced the occasion with their active presence. Students’ spontaneous and enthusiastic participation in the program added extra charm to the whole initiative.
