ESG, which stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance, has become an increasingly important consideration in the banking sector. It refers to the integration of environmental, social, and governance factors into the decision-making processes of banks and financial institutions. This approach recognizes that banks have a responsibility not only to their shareholders but also to society and the environment.
To make the students familiar with this approach of the banking sector, Department of Finance, FBA, AIUB arranged a session for the students of “Corporate Governance & Social Responsibility” class, on “ESG in Banking Sector”, which has been organized on 21st June 2023 at the permanent campus. This was part of a student development initiative for the class, undertaken by the course instructor, Dr. Rumana Afrin.
Mr. Tashmeem Muntazir Chowdhury, Head of the Sustainable Finance Unit in BRAC Bank Ltd. was the guest lecturer at this session. With more than 10 years of extensive experience in financial sector in different private and in the top leading banks of Bangladesh, Mr. Chowdhury conducted an elaborate session on “ESG in Banking Sector”. The interactive session comprises of power point and white board session followed by question answer session and these mixed methods were especially effective in facilitating a better understanding of the topics recently taught in class.
At the end of the session, Senior Assistant Professor and Head of Finance Department Ms. Bohi Shahjahan, Faculty of Business Administration; gave a vote of thanks to the guest speaker for his valuable contribution by presenting him with a certificate of appreciation and gift pack. Administrative stuffs of AIUB, extended their immaculate support for making the event a success.
