Seminar on 'Knowing Institute for Supply Management (ISM)'

The Institute for Supply Management – Bangladesh (ISM-B) organized a Seminar on “Knowing Institute for Supply Management (ISM)" on 03 July (Tuesday), 2012 in collaboration with the American International University-Bangladesh(AIUB) at Campus 1  Auditorium of  the university. Speakers representing ISM-B were Kaizer Sohel Ahmed, Dewan Shahinur Rahman and Ristia Siraj respectively. The seminar was formally opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Professor Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, and was attended by the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Matiur Rahman, Dr. A H M Ehsanul Huda Chowdhury, Director, BBA Program, and Mr. Zobair Shibli, Head of Operations Management Department and the graduate students of the Faculty of Business Administration. As the title of the seminar suggested, the ISM-B members introduced the Supply Management profession and the role of ISM as a leader in the Supply Management. ISM was founded in the United States in 1915 with the mission to lead the supply management profession through its standards of excellence, research, promotional activities, and education. It is the largest supply management association in the world as well as one of the most respected. Bangladesh affiliate of ISM, named as the Institute for Supply Management - Bangladesh became an affiliate association in May 2011. ISM-B obtained license from Ministry of Commerce in August 2010 and was registered with RJSCF in September 2010. ISM-B in alignment with ISM set its mission to foster and promote interchange of ideas and cooperation among its members. It also aims to promote the study, development and application of supply management, including improved procurement methods and practice and all matters of Supply Management profession Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) debuted in 2008 under ISM. This qualification is relevant internationally and reflect the expanded education, skills and experience needed for supply managers to be successful as the profession evolves into the 21st century. This seminar is the first of the succeeding activities which ISM and AIUB are pursuing to promote supply management in the academia. The partnership is expected to undertake development activities such as research, capacity building, advocacy and materials development with the end in view of creating impact to the business and education sectors.
