Seminar On “History of Accounting and Accounting Education in South Asia”

SEMINAR ON“HISTORY OF ACCOUNTING AND ACCOUNTING EDUCATION IN SOUTH ASIA”

Department of Accounting, American International University – Bangladesh organized a seminar on “History of Accounting and Accounting Education in South Asia” on 20th February, 2011. AIUB Auditorium in Campus 1 was very much busy on the day from 11:00 am for one and half an hour. The program started with the welcome address of the honorable dean of the Faculty, Dr. Charles C. Villanueva. The technical paper was presented by the eminent scholar in the area Professor Alok Kumar Pramanik, Head, Department of Commerce, Bhatter College, West Bengal, India. The topic was very interesting and resourceful covering the evolution of accounting from ancient age to the modern via medieval period. The scholar has shown his mastery by bringing the contribution of epics, religions, civilizations and historic personalities on the development of a discipline. Mr. Pramanik has also presented the status of accounting education in South Asian counties with a critical underpinning that raises a welcoming storm among the audiences who were mainly the majoring students in Accounting and Finance. The lecture was ended with a lively question-answer session. Professor Maksudur Rahman Sarker, Director, AQAC offers vote of thanks. Mr. Nikhil Chandra Shil, Faculty, Department of Accounting, conducted the seminar. Mr. Zakaria Masud, Head, Department of Accounting was present in the seminar with other faculties to make the seminar a successful one. The students were very happy to join the seminar and the resource person expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the AIUB authority for the invitation and hospitality. At the end of the seminar, the resource speaker was given a certificate of appreciation and some souvenirs.
