On Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, the IEEE Industry Applications Society AIUB Student Branch Chapter, in collaboration with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch, successfully organized a seminar titled “Biosensor Technology: Innovations and Trends in International Industries”. The seminar aimed to provide valuable insights into the latest advancements in biosensor research and their practical applications across various global industries.
The event commenced with Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, American International University–Bangladesh; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, discussing the future of biosensor technologies. He highlighted the relevance of biosensors in current engineering curriculum, particularly in courses like Digital Signal Processing. He also emphasized the crucial role biosensors play in healthcare, AI integrated sensor development and environmental monitoring.
The keynote session was conducted by Mr. Mashrur Sakib Choyon, Engineer and Production Manager, Zimmer & Peacock LTD (Norway). He delivered an in-depth insight into electrochemical trends in biosensor development. His talk covered the applications of biosensors in aggrotech, aqua tech and wearable technology through international industrial collaboration. He shared ongoing projects involving childbirth and disease monitoring and introduced his capstone project on microplastic detection. He also presented a caffeine sensor developed by his team and discussed the immense potential and future of the biosensor industry. His presentation inspired students to consider how they can contribute to this field for the betterment of society.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A and a surprise quiz. Participants enthusiastically engaged in discussions covering disease monitoring, food safety and environmental protection. Quiz winners received gifts from the speaker, adding an element of excitement to the session.
The seminar concluded with remarks from Dr. Shameem Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch. He expressed gratitude to the speaker for his valuable contributions and acknowledged the importance of biosensors in modern technological advancements. A token of appreciation was presented to the speaker.
The event started at 4:00 PM and concluded at 6:00 PM (GMT+6). A total of 50+ participants attended the seminar, which ended with a group photo session, marking a successful and inspiring discussion on the evolving field of biosensor technology.
