Seminar on “Beyond Boundaries: Electrochemical Sensors Shaping Tomorrow’s World”

On Wednesday, 7th February 2024, the IEEE AIUB Student Branch successfully organized a seminar titled “Beyond Boundaries: Electrochemical Sensors Shaping Tomorrow’s World” in collaboration with the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) AIUB Chapter. The objective of this session was to explore the intriguing domain of electrochemical sensors and their fundamental significance in reshaping the trajectory of future technologies.

The event was commenced by Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch with a heartfelt and welcoming speech. He started by commending the speaker's accomplishments, delivered his remarks about the topic and its significance. Additionally, he emphasized the advantages of IEEE membership, highlighting its benefits regarding journals, publications, and research opportunities. Afterwards, the distinguished speaker for the session, Mr. Mashrur Sakib Choyon, Engineer and Production Manager, Zimmer & Peacock Ltd; took the stage. He delved into the details of the company he works for, and the technology involved. Encouraging the audience, he emphasized the importance of setting goals in life. Moving on, he provided a detailed explanation of electrochemistry and its applications, particularly in biosensors. The speaker also touched upon the topic of addictive functions before demonstrating the uses and functionality of screen printing. Furthermore, he described the company's technology stack and discussed the growing trend in European countries of measuring the spiciness of chili. The speaker elaborated on his company's “Agri-Tech” project and discussed their ongoing work in microbiology. Additionally, he mentioned the various types of tests they conduct and emphasized the relevance of chemical sensors in ensuring food quality and safety. At the end of his presentation, there was an interactive Q&A session.

Following the Q&A session, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, took the floor to provide his thoughts during the session's closing remarks, highlighting the accomplishments and works of the speaker.

The seminar shed light on the implications of electrochemical sensors, aligning with various Sustainable Development Goals. It emphasized the role of electrochemical sensors in medical diagnostics and monitoring, thereby contributing to the goal of Good Health and Well-Being. Furthermore, it highlighted their significance in detecting water pollutants and ensuring access to safe drinking water, aligning with Clean Water and Sanitation.

The session began at 3:00 PM and ended around 4:30 PM. A total of 60+ participants attended the seminar. Honorable faculty member Dr. MD. Rukonuzzaman also attended the seminar, whose presence added further significance to the occasion. was among the participants.
