SEMINAR ON “ACID VIOLENCE IN BANGLADESH” HELD AT AIUB IN DHAKA
A seminar on “Acid Violence in Bangladesh” was held on Sunday,September 23rd, 2007 at American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) auditorium of Campus-1. A three member team from Students Against Acid Violence (SAAV) and Acid Survivor’s Foundation (ASF) briefly spoke to the students, faculty members and others concerned about the effects, causes and the methods of prevention of such acid attacks. The seminar also included a visual presentation which featured the treatment methods of the acid survivors, the target victims and the hospitals for the acid survivors. In addition to that they presented some statistical data which showed that the rate of such attacks is declining slowly. The representatives from SAAV and ASF included the Head Coordinator of SAAV, Mr. Syed Golam Dastagir and the Head of Fund Raising for ASF, Ms. Niharika Momtaz. An acid survivor was also present, who shared her experience in her speech and the way she overcame the difficulties that she went through in her life. Dr. Anwarul Abedin, the honorable Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, AIUB and Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, The honorable Pro Vice Chancellor, AIUB also gave valuable speeches on this topic. The students were greatly motivated by this seminar. Dr. Charles Villanueva, Dean of Arts & Social Sciences, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Md. Golam Maula, Director Administration, Mr. Lutfor Rahman, Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mr. Abdul Kader Nazmul, Coordinator, Office of Sports and other senior officials of AIUB were also present at the seminar. |
