The Department of Law at AIUB arranged a visit to the Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court on Thursday, March 07, 2024. The purpose was to provide students with firsthand exposure to the practical aspects of the "Trial Procedure of Civil & Criminal Courts." A group consisting of 27 AIUB law students and faculty members departed from the university at 7:30 am and reached the Manikganj Judge Court around 10:00 am.
Mr. Al-Imran Khan, Senior Assistant Judge of Manikganj and Mr. Rahul Dey, Judicial Magistrate of Manikganj, welcomed the AIUB law students on behalf of the Manikganj Judgeship. The briefing took place in the conference room of the Manikganj Judge Court, where Jayasri Samaddar, the Honorable District and Sessions Judge of Manikganj, introduced the students to the Manikganj Judgeship. She emphasized the commitment and selflessness required from judges in their service to the people and society, aiming to uphold natural justice and the rule of law. Additionally, she advised the students to cultivate courage and integrity, emphasizing the importance of these qualities for the improvement of humanity. Following this, the students were taken to the Magistrate Court for another briefing, where Mr. Utpal Bhattacharya, the Honorable Chief Judicial Magistrate of Manikganj, delivered lectures on the jurisdiction of criminal courts and the significance of enacting new criminal legislation.
Subsequently, the students were divided into five groups and escorted to various civil and criminal courtrooms. They had the opportunity to observe and learn about case filing, trial procedures, witness cross-examinations, commissions, and other related topics in a real-world setting.
After the courtroom experience, the students visited different administrative sections of the courts to understand the process of filing civil suits and criminal cases, guided by Al-Imran Khan, Senior Assistant Judge of Manikganj. The visit concluded with a group photo alongside the honorable judges of the Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court. Overall, the study tour provided invaluable, practical insights for AIUB Law students, proving to be highly relevant, instructive, and beneficial.
