On Thursday, April 25th, 2024, Faculty of Engineering organized a industrial tour to Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Gonokbari, Savar, Dhaka which was supported by AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES). A group of 23 students along with 2 honorable faculty members visited the research center.
The event started with a presentation on Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, where the history of the great work, the binding and purpose behind it, vision and working processes were reflected in this brief presentation by Mr. Swapan Chakraborty (CSO, Director, Institute of Scientific Information). Later this group visited Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology where Engr. Md Rakibul Hasan (Principal Engineer, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission) gave a briefing about research reactor, radioactive materials, nuclear flux, and their implementation in real and research work. Mr. Anisur Rahaman (Principle Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission) discussed about the control panel, power generation, hardware implementation and maintenance of research reactor. Later, Mr. Mohammad Anwar Hussain (Chief Engineer, Radioisotope Production Department) showed the central scientific workshop, where various types of machines were demonstrated, and their working methods and purposes were explained. Finally, Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman (Chief Scientific Officer & Director, Institute of Energy Science) took a session about the purpose, equipment, research, and development activities of AERE.
The session ended with a Q/A segment. A token of recognition was presented to the Chief Scientific Officer of SIU and AERE by Dr. Gour Chand Mazumder (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. S M Tanvir Hassan Shovon (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) on behalf of AIUB. The visit proved to be an enriching experience, allowing the students to gain invaluable insights into the sophisticated workings of atomic energy. The goal of this event was in perfect harmony with the Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring quality education (SDG 4) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9).
