Applied Linguistics/TESOL
Applied Linguistics, an interdisciplinary field of study that investigates the practical aspects of language use, plays a critical role in exploring the connections between linguistics, language education, and culture. TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It refers to teaching English to non-native English speakers either abroad or in English-speaking countries, though it is most often used to refer to language instruction that occurs in English-speaking countries.INTEREST(S)

Teachers’ Perceptions on Corrective Feedback in Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Contexts in Bangladesh
The use of Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approaches in English as Second Language (ESL) classrooms has recently gained special attention. In the context of Bangladesh, English for Academic Purposes, a contextualized TBLT module prepared jointly by British Council and University Grant Commission Bangladesh, was piloted in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses in a private university in Bangladesh. A Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach which is an advanced task-based approach has also been used in other English classes. The use of these TBLT and CLIL materials helped explore some emerging issues regarding the success of these materials. After completion of language learning tasks or activities in English language classrooms, providing feedback to the users of TBLT and CLIL materials emerged as the key issue to the success of these materials. Simultaneously, successful implementation of these approaches surfaced as a challenge since it appeared unfeasible, or sometimes, taxing for the instructors to provide feedback to every individual student in traditional Bangladeshi language classrooms consisting around 40-50 students. This study aims at exploring TBLT and CLIL teachers’ perceptions regarding feedback and how the success of TBLT and CLIL relates with providing feedback and suggesting some feasible and plausible ways and strategies to provide effective feedback to the students of a large class of English. A mixed-method design to research was adapted which included questionnaire, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) as research instruments.

Confronting Professional and Cultural Barriers to Evidence-Based Teaching in University English Departments: An Auto-Ethnographic Study
This study aims to understand the cultural and professional barriers that hinder the integration of EBTP at the university level, specifically among lecturers, through an autoethnographic approach. The findings reveal that lecturers' deeply ingrained cultural capital and professional practices present significant obstacles to the adoption of EBTP.
