Frontier Bioprospecting

This research domain is an interdisciplinary scientific collective dedicated to identifying commercially viable biological resources from terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Integrating biotechnology, pharmacology, ecology, and environmental law, it systematically screens organisms—from soil microbes and medicinal plants to deep-sea extremophiles, marine sponges, and macroalgae—for novel enzymes, genes, and bioactive compounds. By combining traditional ethnobotanical knowledge with advanced deep-sea exploration technologies, the group drives innovation in pharmaceuticals, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly cosmetics, and functional foods. It emphasizes ethical and ecological responsibility by ensuring all bioprospecting aligns with sustainable practices and international frameworks such as the Nagoya Protocol and the UN BBNJ Agreement.
