The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a dialogue titled "Women-Led Climate Action through Media and Storytelling" on 25 June 2026. The dialogue was held  at the AIUB Media Studio under the EmPower: Women for Climate Resilient Societies Programme – Phase II, implemented by UN Women in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The dialogue brought together academics, media professionals, development practitioners, climate advocates, rural women leaders, and students to explore the vital role of women in climate resilience and the importance of ethical media storytelling in advancing gender-responsive climate action.

The programme was inaugurated with welcome remarks by Senior Assistant Professor Niaz Majumdar, while Professor and Head of JMC Department Dr. Pradip Kumar Panday emphasized the need for responsible journalism that highlights women's contributions to climate adaptation. Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, underscored the importance of women's empowerment and their participation in climate-related decision-making.

Moderated by Ahmed Reza, senior broadcast journalist of Jamuna Television, the interactive dialogue focused on how media narratives often portray women as victims rather than recognizing them as leaders and agents of resilience during climate crises. Panelists, including Lipika Rani Bairagi, Executive Director of ASDDW; Shararat Islam, Communication Analyst at UN Women Bangladesh; Dr. Faria Sultana, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Economics, AIUB; and Afroja Sultana, Assistant Professor of JMC, AIUB, highlighted the importance of ethical storytelling, women's leadership, community resilience, and inclusive climate communication.

The programme concluded with remarks from Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, who emphasized the importance of collaboration among academia, media, development organizations, and young people in addressing climate challenges and promoting gender equality. In his closing reflections, moderator Ahmed Reza urged future journalists to amplify women's voices and document stories of resilience to build more inclusive and sustainable societies.

The Dialogue Series reaffirmed AIUB's commitment to fostering informed public discourse on climate action, gender equality, youth engagement, and responsible communication while encouraging future media professionals to contribute to positive social transformation through ethical and evidence-based storytelling.

The event was organized by senior faculty member Mr. Niaz Majumdar and anchored by Ms. Heeya, a student of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
