Department of Public Health Celebrated International Women’s Day

The Department of Public Health at AIUB organized a seminar at the Media Studio on Friday the 8thMarch 2024 commemorating "International Women's Day", celebrating and advocating for women's rights and well-being. The visiting guest Professor Dr. Faruk Ahmed from the dept. of Public Health at Griffith University, Australia delivered his speech about Women’s Health and Importance of micronutrients.  Dr. Wasiful Alam, faculty and head of the dept. of Public Health at AIUB delved into an intriguing discussion surrounding the phenomenon of women's longevity compared to men, shedding light on various factors contributing to this divergence.

As a part of the regular student development under the MPH program the seminar focused on gender equality and knowledge exchange and awareness-building regarding health of women. MPH students participated with great enthusiasm and learning aptitude. The seminar was insightful in understanding the research areas of micronutrients. At the closing, Dr. Faruk Ahmed discussed about the requirements and process to apply in master’s or PhD program at Griffith University, Australia which was helpful for our MPH students for their further higher education abroad.

The objective of this seminar was to honor International Women's Day by highlighting women's health concerns, especially the significance of life expectancy at birth. It aimed to share knowledge and insights with MPH students, helping them understand these issues in the context of gender difference.  Overall, the seminar played as a platform for learning, exchange of ideas, and encouragement for students to explore opportunities for higher education in Public Health.
