On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Office of Student Affairs (OSA), and AIUB Women Forum, in collaboration with Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC, successfully organized the Cervical Cancer Awareness Program at the AIUB Multipurpose Hall (Building D). This impactful initiative, facilitated by the AIUB Social Welfare Club – Shomoy, aimed to educate students about cervical cancer risks and prevention strategies while offering on-site vaccination services to registered participants.
In the lead-up to the event, the AIUB Shomoy Club played a pivotal role by setting up an awareness stall on campus for a week. They ran a vaccination campaign and gathered information from interested students, ensuring broad participation and outreach.
The program commenced with a warm welcome and an opening speech by Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB. Distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, representatives from Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC, faculty members, and students.
A key highlight was an insightful presentation by Dr. Zayer Rashid, Head of the Medical Service Department at Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC, who addressed the current state and future challenges of cervical cancer in Bangladesh and highlighted the benefits of vaccination. This was followed by a compelling discussion led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasif Alam, Head of the Department of Public Health at AIUB, who emphasized the critical need for community awareness and preventive measures to combat cervical cancer.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Kazi Abdul Mubin, Brand Manager of Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC. In his closing remarks, Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, underscored the university's commitment to health awareness initiatives. He emphasized the importance of empowering students with the knowledge to make informed decisions for their well-being.
