Once in every two years, the best architectural achievement and latest development in architectural trends grace the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) congress. The 15th Asian Congress of Architects this year took place in Bali, Indonesia from 28th October to 2nd November 2012. The theme of this conference was “A Modernism Challenge: Asian Cities and Architecture Heritage in a New Paradigm”. There were mainly three branches of this total event; the ARCASIA Student Jamboree 2012; The 2nd ICSTD Conference hosted by Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali; and the congress of architects. This year four students named Farhin Ashrafi, Talha Mahmud, Tahsin Ahmed and Md. Tauhidul Islam from the Department of Architecture participated in this event representing Bangladesh along with 18 other Asian countries. They submitted a paper “Renarrativization of Bengal Jatra: through the Eye of Architecture” that was selected by the ARCASIA Scientific Committee and they invited them to give a presentation on the 2nd ICSTD 2012 Conference in Udayana University, Bali. The paper has also been published in the International Conference publication of ICSTD. The participants represented the rich cultural and architectural heritage of our country though their presentation among the international architectural community which was the only presentation and publication of students from Bangladesh this year. The five day event included different activity programs like, Architectural Drawing, Re-constructing a Bale Pavilion (Contextual architectural workshop), working in groups, Excursions around Bali, Case Studies: Denpasar towards a Cultural and creative city, Student Architectural Exhibition, Social activities and the friendship night (where architects and students from 18 Asian countries represented their own culture and traditions through cultural performances). The participants would like to extend their gratitude for the whole hearted support provided by the Architecture Department and AIUB administration.
