Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, Advisor and Dean-in-Charge of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing how data analytics creates substantial value by transforming raw information into actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making, optimize operations, and predict market trends, positioning business analysts as essential assets in Industry 4.0 where organizations increasingly depend on data literacy to maintain competitive advantage. The seminar featured Mr. Shyamol B. Das, Additional Managing Director of Technology & Digital Banking Operation at Nagad, who covered several key topics including the digital payment industry's growth and movement, industry insights, Nagad's journey until 2024, Nagad's transactional target achievements, active customer target achievements, customer insights, and challenges with improvement scopes. Mr. Das presented comprehensive data on how the digital payment landscape in Bangladesh had evolved dramatically, highlighting Nagad's impressive journey from a newcomer to a significant market player that had exceeded its transactional volume targets through innovative service offerings that addressed the unique needs of Bangladesh's diverse population; he shared detailed analytics on customer acquisition strategies that had successfully expanded Nagad's active user base across both urban and rural areas, revealing valuable demographic and behavioral patterns that had guided their product development processes, while also candidly discussing the operational challenges they had encountered and how data-driven approaches had helped identify improvement opportunities in service delivery, security enhancements, and customer experience optimization.
Mr. Das's presentation style proved exceptionally engaging as he seamlessly blended technical insights with relatable examples, actively encouraged questions throughout his talk, and incorporated real-time feedback into his discussion points, creating a dynamic learning environment where students felt comfortable participating in
meaningful dialogue about the practical applications of data analytics in the financial technology sector. The seminar highlighted the importance of analytical thinking leadership, with Mr. Das explaining how Nagad's leadership team had fostered a culture where decisions at all levels were backed by data rather than intuition alone, resulting in more consistent outcomes and providing clear examples of how analytical frameworks had been integrated into their management philosophy; the presentation explored the role of big data and predictive analytics in revolutionizing decision-making across industries. Furthermore, The seminar focused on how data-driven strategies empower businesses to achieve competitive advantages and drive growth, with Mr. Das sharing specific case studies where analytics had given Nagad the ability to rapidly respond to market shifts, optimize their marketing expenditures by targeting the most receptive audience segments, and develop new service features based on empirically identified customer needs rather than assumptions.
The seminar contributed significantly to advancing several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Regarding SDG 9, the seminar demonstrated how data analytics had fostered innovation and built resilient infrastructure in Bangladesh's financial ecosystem, with Mr. Das providing concrete examples of how Nagad's data-driven approach had expanded financial infrastructure into previously underserved regions, bringing mobile financial services to rural communities where traditional banking had limited reach.
