The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has achieved a significant international recognition by securing a place on the global leaderboard of the 9th Annual SDG Teach-In 2026, a worldwide sustainability education campaign led by Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK).
The SDG Teach-In, held from 1–31 March 2026, encourages educators across the world to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching, learning, training, and engagement activities. The initiative brings together institutions from early education to higher education to promote sustainability, social responsibility, and global citizenship through education.
As of 6 March 2026, AIUB has already achieved remarkable global visibility in two categories on the official Teach-In leaderboards. AIUB secured a joint 4th position in the Top 10 Institutions (Educators Pledged) category, alongside Ulster University. In addition, AIUB ranked 2nd globally in the “Learners Reached” category (in proportion to institutional size), demonstrating the university’s strong engagement with students on sustainability-related learning.
Other leading institutions featured on the leaderboard include De Montfort University, Birmingham City University, University of Exeter, and University of the West Indies, highlighting the global scale and competitiveness of the initiative.
AIUB’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) successfully coordinated and managed the university’s participation in the SDG Teach-In 2026 pledge. The university is also a signatory of the Responsible Futures International 2024/25 initiative, led by SOS-UK and delivered jointly with the International Association of Universities (IAU). Through this initiative, institutions work to embed sustainability and ethical responsibility within teaching practices, institutional culture, and student engagement.
The SDG Teach-In campaign has grown significantly since its launch in 2018, reaching nearly 600,000 students across 50 countries and engaging over 1,000 educators in 2025 alone. AIUB’s presence on the global leaderboard reflects the collective efforts of its faculty members and the university’s commitment to advancing sustainability education.
The next leaderboard update will be published in mid-March as more institutions and educators around the world join the initiative.
AIUB congratulates all participating faculty members for their contributions and encourages continued engagement in sustainability-focused teaching and learning activities. This achievement further strengthens AIUB’s role as a proactive contributor to global sustainability education and responsible academic practice.
