The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) proudly participated in the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) 2025 Anniversary Conference held from November 11 to 13, 2025, at King’s College London (KCL), UK. Professor Farheen Hassan, Ph.D., SFHEA, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), attended the event on behalf of AIUB.

As an active signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020 and a committed member of the MCO “Responsive and Responsible University” initiative, AIUB’s presence at the anniversary conference reaffirmed the university’s dedication to upholding and advancing the core values of higher education, academic freedom, institutional autonomy, and social responsibility.

AIUB’s growing engagement with the Magna Charta Observatory (MCO) was also highlighted during the event. Notably, AIUB’s recent hosting of an International Symposium on Responsive and Responsible Universities in Collaboration with Magna Charta Observatory at its AIUB campus, which gathered MCO leaders, mentors, and international partners, was specifically acknowledged during the anniversary proceedings. This recognition underscored AIUB’s expanding leadership role within the global higher education community and its ongoing commitment to fostering international dialogue on ethics, integrity, governance, and sustainability in higher education.

The conference, themed “What are universities for? Higher education principles, values and responsibilities in a fragmented world,” brought together representatives from more than 1,000 universities across over 90 countries. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations on navigating emerging global challenges while safeguarding the foundational principles of higher education. Key discussions centered on the MCO Future-Generations Strategy, the essential role of students in shaping institutional reform, and the need to balance rights and responsibilities in both academia and the public sphere.

The event concluded with a formal ceremony on November 13, during which new universities signed the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020, strengthening the global alliance committed to shared academic values.

AIUB’s participation in this landmark international gathering, along with its recent role as an MCO event host, reflects the university’s unwavering dedication to promoting quality education, global cooperation, and responsible leadership. Through its continued engagement with MCO initiatives, AIUB remains committed to shaping a resilient, ethical, and future-ready higher education landscape for Bangladesh and beyond.
