A delegation from the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) was invited by Cambridge University Press & Assessment to participate in a roundtable discussion titled "From Curriculum to Career: Aligning English Communication Skills with Hiring and Workplace Success," held on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Dhaka Airport. The event was organized to mark the official launch of the Linguaskill Test, Cambridge's innovative online English proficiency assessment, in Bangladesh.
Representing AIUB at the roundtable were Ms. Dulce Lamagna, Member, Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Manzur H Khan, Proctor; and Mr. Md. Manirul Islam, Associate Professor, Faculty of Science and Technology and Director, Institute of Continuing Education. The AIUB delegates actively contributed to the discussions by sharing their perspectives on the role of English communication skills in higher education and professional success.
The roundtable brought together a distinguished group of stakeholders, including Vice Chancellors, CEOs, professors, HR consultants, and Heads of Human Resources from leading educational institutions and organizations. The participants engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on the evolving importance of English communication skills in both education and employment.
Key areas of discussion included the gap between graduate competencies and employer expectations, the role of higher education institutions in enhancing employability and workplace readiness, the significance of English communication skills in recruitment and career advancement, and the alignment of academic curricula with international standards and emerging workforce demands. The discussion also explored the impact of artificial intelligence and rapidly changing workplace environments on the skills required by future graduates, as well as opportunities for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to better prepare students for professional success.
The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and strengthening partnerships among educational institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers, reinforcing the shared commitment to developing graduates equipped with the communication and professional skills needed in an increasingly competitive global workforce.
