Welcoming the Bengali New Year in true festive spirit, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) came alive with vibrant colors, music, and tradition as the university celebrated AIUB Boishakh Utshab 1432 on April 14, 2025, at its picturesque permanent campus.
The day-long celebration reflected AIUB’s commitment to honoring cultural heritage while creating an inclusive and joyous environment for all. The event brought together students, faculty members, alumni, administrative staff, and management in a collective celebration of Bengali identity and tradition.
This year’s Boishakhi Mela featured an array of stalls offering traditional delicacies, handcrafted goods, cultural merchandise, and nostalgic novelties—all designed, curated, and managed by the students themselves. A classic ‘nagordola’ stood tall at the heart of the festivities, surrounded by laughter, music, and the warm aroma of traditional foods.
Adding rhythm and soul to the celebration, a cultural concert was staged in the evening featuring stellar performances by the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC), followed by a fun debate arranged by AIUB Oratory Club (AOC). Later, renowned singers of the country Minar (an AIUB Alumnus), Bappa & Dolchut, Pritom Hasan, and Tahsan, captivated the crowd till dusk with their mesmerizing performance.
The AIUB Arts Club and Department of Architecture collaborated on colorful and amazing road art and decor installations throughout the campus, capturing the essence of Bangladeshi folk culture and adding a visual richness to the celebration.
The event was inaugurated by Ms. Nadia Anwar, Founder Member and Chairman of the AIUB Board of Trustees, who joined the festivities with fellow Board Members including Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan, Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, Ms. Sabrina Abedin, Ms. Shania Mahia Abedin and Ms. Adhira Alim, as well as senior university officials. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman
also joined the celebration, mingling with students and faculty in a shared expression of cultural pride.
Traditional red and white attire, colorful umbrellas, and cheerful faces defined the day’s vibe, making it a heartfelt tribute to the Bangladeshi New Year. As the sun set over the festooned campus, echoes of music and laughter lingered, symbolizing AIUB’s enduring commitment to culture, community, and celebration. With the overwhelming success of Boishakh Utshab 1432, the university eagerly looks forward to even more spirited celebrations in the years to come.
