American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) and Jahangirnagar University (JU) have taken a significant step toward advancing international academic cooperation through a strategic research collaboration with the Cybersecurity Research Center at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) in Skellefteå, Sweden.
A high-level meeting was convened on 16 May 2025 at LTU, bringing together senior academic representatives to explore joint research opportunities in the fields of cybersecurity, blockchain technologies, and sustainable autonomous systems. The discussions were marked by a strong commitment to fostering long-term, impactful partnerships across borders.
The Bangladeshi delegation included:
- Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB
- Prof. Dr. M. Shamim Kaiser, Institute of Information Technology (IIT), Jahangirnagar University
- Prof. Dr. Shamim Al Mamun, IIT, Jahangirnagar University
From the host institution, Prof. Dr. Karl Andersson, Dean for the Faculty of Science and Technology and recently appointed Head of Cybersecurity at LTU, led the Swedish side of the dialogue. His expert insights into the European cybersecurity landscape provided an invaluable foundation for identifying aligned research priorities and areas for collaboration.
Key discussion points included:
- Launching joint research initiatives targeting emerging cybersecurity threats, data privacy concerns, and artificial intelligence-driven security frameworks;
- Establishing faculty and student exchange programs to promote cross-cultural academic engagement and knowledge transfer;
- Collaborating on joint publications and the formation of international research consortia for participation in major grant programs such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus+.
This meeting signifies a pivotal advancement in AIUB and Jahangirnagar University’s efforts to strengthen their global research networks. All parties expressed a strong mutual interest in formalizing the collaboration through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and organizing follow-up visits to sustain momentum.
