A one-day workshop on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness was held on April 16, 2026, at American International University-Bangladesh, jointly organized by AIUB, the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), and the World Organisation for Animal Health under the One Health approach.
The event highlighted the growing global threat of AMR, driven by misuse of antibiotics in human healthcare, agriculture, and animal sectors. Emphasizing the One Health concept—which links human, animal, and environmental health, the workshop stressed the need for coordinated, multisectoral action.
Dr. Muhammad Wasiful Alam, Head of Public Health at AIUB, noted that AMR is one of the most critical public health challenges worldwide. He announced AIUB’s initiative to establish a One Health Center and highlighted its pioneering role as the first private university in Bangladesh to integrate One Health into its Masters in Public Health (MPH )curriculum.
The workshop brought together 246 students from 12 universities and medical colleges, along with 73 academic leaders and policymakers. Interactive activities, including an AMR-themed student competition, fostered engagement and awareness. The program concluded with a call to empower youth as “One Health Champions” to promote responsible antimicrobial use and combat AMR nationally and globally.
