Tourism is not merely an economic and commercial activity, but one of the world’s principal instruments for human interaction. With a record 940 million international tourist arrivals in 2010, never before have so many people travelled so widely, nor come into contact with such a diverse range of cultures.
World Tourism Day 2011 is being celebrated under the theme ‘Tourism – Linking Cultures’. As the most widely celebrated global day for tourism, it represents an opportunity to address how tourism can help build tolerance and understanding worldwide by serving as a catalyst for communication and exchange between the different cultures of the world.
AIUB Tourism and Hospitality Management department celebrated the ‘WORLD TOURISM DAY 2011 through day long different colorful programs like rally, quiz contest, photo contest, posters exhibition and voting campaign for the Sundarbans.
The celebration was inaugurated at 09:30 am on Tuesday in the study area of Campus 1. The Honorable Dean FBA, Dr. Charles C. Villanueva; Director, BBA, Dr. Ehsanul Huda and Mr. Manzur H. Khan, Director, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), inaugurated the event. Coordinator of the event was Mr. Golam Mostofa, Faculty, Tourism and Hospitality Management Department, Mr. AKM Kamrul Haque, Assistant Professor, Marketing Department; Ms. Farzana Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Marketing Department; Ms. Mehrin Mamun, Faculty, Marketing Department; Mr. Stanley Rodrick, Faculty, Marketing Department along with other faculties and students were also present. After the opening ceremony a colorful rally was organized participated by AIUB students.
On the closing ceremony of the event, Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna was present as the chief guest along with Director of MBA Program Dr. Nisar Ahmed; Mr. Rashed Chowdhury, Head of Marketing Department. The valued participation of the distinguished guests and their short speech inspired those who were present. Honorable Vice Chancellor gave away the prizes to the winners of the different competitions and around 6 pm the program came to an end.
