The Architecture Research Team at the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a workshop titled “Analysing Visual Data: A Systematic Approach to Understanding Participants' Drawings” on April 30, 2025. The session was conducted by Fauzia Rahman Mouri, an architect and PhD candidate at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She has been serving in academia at AIUB since 2014 and is currently on study leave to pursue her doctoral studies.
The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce participants to structured techniques for analyzing visual data, particularly architectural drawings, using a ten-point analytical strategy. The session aimed to enhance critical observation skills and provide a methodological framework for interpreting visual information in research.
Participants were actively engaged in a structured, interactive session. During the ‘Analysis Session,’ they worked in groups to examine provided drawings and document key findings based on the ten-point framework. This was followed by a ‘Discussion and Reflection’ segment, where attendees shared insights and reflected on their analytical process. The interactive format encouraged critical thinking and collaborative learning.
Faculty members from the Department of Architecture participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to advanced research methodologies and deepening their understanding of visual analysis in architectural research. The session also supported the department’s broader aim of promoting research-integrated teaching practices and academic growth.
Through active discussion and research exercises, the workshop facilitated key aspects of scholarly development. We extend our gratitude to Mr. M. Arefeen Ibrahim, Head of the Department of Architecture, for his valuable assistance in organizing this workshop. Special acknowledgment goes to Assistant Professors Farzana Siddiqua and Irfat Alam for organizing the workshop on behalf of the Architecture Research Team, AIUB. We also express our appreciation to the AIUB administration and support staff for their continued cooperation.
