Workshop on AI Tools in Research

The Research Cell of the Faculty of Business Administration, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a workshop on "AI Tools in Research" on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4-6 PM at the Media Studio (Annex-2, Level-2), at AIUB Campus. The workshop was designed to introduce the most recent AI tools and their influence on the nature of teaching, learning, and evaluation, as well as to enhance the research and teaching capabilities of the Business School's teachers.

Prof. Dr. Md. Jashim Uddin, Convenor, Research and Publication, AIUB delivered the inaugural remarks of the workshop, which were immediately followed by a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Tabin Hasan, Head of the Computer Science (Graduate Program), AIUB. He introduced the resource person and elaborated on the workshop's theme, which was to explore the potential of AI to extend human augmentation while acknowledging that AI cannot replace human creativity.

The key resource speaker of the workshop was Mr. MJ Ferdous, the director and COO at Brain Station 23 and an alumnus of AIUB. With extensive industry experience, numerous journal articles published, and academic conferences attended, Mr. Ferdous has a strong background in AI and its applications. Additionally, he has been a part-time academician at AIUB. Mr. Ferdous delivered an engaging presentation that encompassed a variety of subjects, such as the definition of Artificial Intelligence, Human vs AI benchmarking, AI ethics and detection, and AI Tools for Research (including literature review tools, writing assistant tools, editing tools, citation generator tools, illustrations tools, and data analysis & visualization Tools). He explained that AI is not merely a trendy term; it is a transformative force that is revolutionizing the way we work, solving complex problems, and reshaping the academic world. Additionally, he provided an explanation of the publishing bodies' perspectives on their AI policies, including AI detection, AI ethics, and responsible use in the publication process. He clarifies on how AI is not substituting human creativity; rather, it enriches it by reducing the number of superfluous duties, streamlining our activities, and ultimately increasing productivity.  

The workshop enhanced the capacity of the Business school's faculties to conduct research and teaching, ultimately improving the quality of education which is covered by SDG 4: Quality Education. The event also focused on the application of AI tools in research, which is crucial for innovation and infrastructure development which successfully contributed to achieving SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.  

The event concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Md. Faruque Hossain, and a token of appreciation was presented to the resource person and his team members from Brain Station 23. The event was coordinated by Mr. Mehzabul Hoque Nahid, the head of the MIS department, and organized by Dr. Rezbin Nahar, the Director of the Undergraduate Program in the Faculty of Business Administration at AIUB. The event was attended by faculty members of FBA, who were actively engaged throughout the workshop. The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for the faculty members to learn about the latest AI tools and their applications in research, ultimately enhancing their capacity to conduct research and teach effectively.
