Workshop on “Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing”
On 26th December, 2017, Department of EEE organized a daylong workshop on " Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing”. The workshop was held at Room No. 266, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The goal of the workshop was to build up knowledge on Advanced Robotics for Electrical Engineering and 3D Printer.
The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; inducing the faculty members for gaining knowledge on Embedded Systems and 3D Printing technologies. He also thanked Department of EEE and AIUB-IQAC for taking the initiative to enlighten the participants with the knowledge of robotics.
This daylong workshop was conducted by Professor Dr. Rafiqul I. Noorani, Seaver College of Science and Engineering, Loyola Marymount University Los Angeles, CA, US. In the first session spanned from 11:00AM to 1:00AM, he discussed the importance of using robots in the manufacturing industries. Then the scope of research in this area was discussed. The Second session started at 2:00PM. Professor Dr. Rafiqul I. Noorani then elaborated the topic about Rapid prototyping and manufacturing (3D Printing). He mentioned the names of countries involved in manufacturing the 3D printer.
Later, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, delivered the closing speech. The instructor of the workshop was then presented a token of appreciation from Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman on behalf of Department of EEE.
Skill Development workshop on “Renewable, Power, and Power Electronics System Design using MATLAB & Simulink”
The Department of EEE coordinated a workshop on “MATLAB & Simulink” on 8th December, 2016. The workshop was held at Lab EL-52, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The goal of the workshop was to teach the basics of MATLAB and Simulink simulation to the faculty members of the Department of EEE.
The opening remarks were addressed by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; inducing the faculty members for gaining hands-on experience on MATLAB and Simulink. The workshop started at 10:00 PM with a brief discussion about MATLAB and Simulink from Engr. Md. Fardouse Alam, Engineer (Automation), Director, ISTDC, Innova Engineering Limited. He spoke about the essentials of MATLAB software and its application in the simulation of different fields of engineering. He also talked about the ease of using the software for its user friendly codes. Then Mr. Shameem Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB discussed the usage and application of Simulink to resolve engineering problems and obtain various graphs and records using it. It also included simulation of inverters and Power System Network Using Simulink Blocks.
The event came to an end after the closing remarks and Certificates distribution from Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. The event was made successful by the active participation of the faculty members of Department of EEE.
Skill Development workshop on “LATEX & Lyx”
The Department of EEE and AIUB-IQAC organized a daylong workshop on 15th December 2016, titled “Workshop on LaTeX & LyX” in Lab EL-52, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The workshop was aimed at introducing the faculty members to the high quality typesetting system known as LaTeX and its complementary open-source document processor named LyX, along with their applications and the prospects they hold for engineering fields.
Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Siddique Hossain, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB initiated the event by welcoming the participants and delivering a short speech emphasizing on how article-writing tools are beneficial for writing research papers and other academic documents. First, Mr. Mohammed Tareq, Assistant Professor, Department of EETE, Dhaka International University, highlighted key benefits and limitations of using LaTeX and LyX and their core features. Next, Mr. Ismail Hossain, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, talked about the numerous advantages LaTeX holds while writing a thesis paper, a CV, a scientific journal or any other document of international standards. He displayed the various functions, formatting tools to edit a document based on LaTeX. The workshop ended with a question answer session.

Skill Development workshop on “Basic Schematic and Layout Design using CADENCE VIRTUOSO”
The Department of EEE organized a workshop entitled " Basic Schematic and Layout Design using CADENCE VIRTUOSO” on 1st December, 2016 at EL-51, FE Building, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The workshop was conducted by Mr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Ataus Shafi (Assistant Manager, Physical Design & EDA Flow, Ulkasemi Limited). The main emphasis of the workshop was on the software CADENCE and basic schematic and layout Design using it.
Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) commenced the event by giving the welcome speech. He gave a brief idea about the vast field of VLSI and practical layout designing in different manufacturing industries. Then the floor was given to the speaker Mr. Ataus Shafi. He started the session by showing different features of the software CADENCE. After that, he shared his own experience of his research, based on VLSI, thus giving more ideas about its implementation. Then Mr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi explained how to do the simulation using CADENCE and showed several examples.

Workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE)”
On 29th December 2016, The Department of EEE organized a workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE)”, at Room No 266, FE Building, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The motive of the workshop was to introduce the faculty members to the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and how to implement this in the university. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Professor Dr. Muhammad H. Rashid (Professor, The university of West Florida, USA). All the faculty members from Department of EEE & COE participated in this workshop.
Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) initiated the event by welcoming the participants and delivered a short speech on the importance of OBE in the engineering education system. Professor Dr. Muhammad H. Rashid then guided the participants through the workshop. At the very beginning he gave a brief description of Engineering Accreditation Issues. The following part of his lecture includes ABET Engineering Criteria, Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes, Washington Accord Engineering Attributes, Program Curriculum, Courses and Program Outcomes, Performance Indicators etc. Then he discussed about the course and syllabus development and Student Learning and Course Assessments. In the last session, he talked about the Bloom’s Taxonomy and the importance of OBE in engineering education.
Later, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, delivered the closing speech. The instructor of the workshop was then presented a small token of appreciation from Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman on behalf of Department of EEE.
Workshop on “COURSE OUTCOMES AND PROGRAM OUTCOMES MAPPING FOR OBE”
The Department of EEE organized a workshop on 18th January 2017, titled “course outcomes and program outcomes mapping for OBE”, at Room No 266, FE Building, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The motive of the workshop was to introduce the faculty members to the filing practices and procedures of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The keynote speaker of the workshop was Prof. Dr. Engr. Shahidul Islam Professor, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak). All the faculty members from Department of EEE & COE participated in this workshop. From other departments, Dr. Shaikh Suhrabuddin, Mr. Mashiour Rahman, Dr. Dip Nandi, Dr. Md. Jashimuddin, Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed and Md. Hamidul Haque were present in the workshop.
Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) initiated the event by welcoming the participants and delivered a short speech on the importance of OBE in the engineering education system. Prof. Dr. Engr. Shahidul Islam then guided the participants through the workshop. The OBE Principles and Process were then discussed by him. After that he briefed about Defining Curriculum Objectives and Intended Learning Outcomes, Designing Assessment Tasks and Selecting Teaching and Learning Activities. Next, he notified some guidelines for Producing Effective ILO Statements and developing marking schemes.
