The Department of English at AIUB successfully organized a student seminar titled "Exploring the Industry Demands for English Graduates in Bangladesh" on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 at the university’s Media Studio. The event aimed to help English majors understand the evolving landscape of employment opportunities and the skills needed to thrive in various industries.
With active participation from students, faculty members, and student presenters from the Department of English, the seminar created a platform for meaningful discussion on aligning academic learning with market expectations.
Mr. M Hamidul Haque, Head of the Department of English, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the need to prepare students not only with academic knowledge but also with practical, industry-relevant skills that enhance their employability. The seminar featured insightful presentations by student speakers Sharifa Tajrin Purnima, Abid Anzum Tridib, Maliha Haque, Nishat Tasnim, and Samama Islam Sara. Drawing from their project work, they shared key findings and reflections based on direct interactions with professionals across multiple industries.
The seminar was the outcome of a student-led project conducted as part of the Professional English course in Fall 2024–25, under the supervision of the course instructor, Ms. Shahrina Afrin Siddique, Lecturer, Department of English. As part of the project, 73 students from two sections visited 29 corporate, educational, and nonprofit organizations, gathering data from over 80 industry professionals and representatives across 9 different industries, including education, media, corporate sectors, NGOs, and banking.
Serving as a crucial initiative to bridge the gap between academic preparation and industry needs, the seminar encouraged students to take ownership of their professional growth and explore the wide-ranging opportunities their English degree can offer.
